RL John 5_18-29

Jesus Christ God Son Savior – ichthus

Jesus is God.
The way to be good is to be in Jesus.
Being in Jesus is a spiritual event.

18 This was why the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.”
‭‭
19 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise. 20 For the Father loves the Son and shows him all that he himself is doing. And greater works than these will he show him, so that you may marvel. 21 For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom he will. 22 For the Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son, 23 that all may honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. 24 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.

Jesus does nothing of his own accord.
Whatever the father does, the does.
Father gives life, Jesus life.
Father has given judgment to the son so the son will honored as they honor the father.
If you don’t honor the son you don’t honor the father.
Hear this and believe — they you are free from judgment — passed from death to life.

25 “Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. 26 For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself. 27 And he has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man. 28 Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.

Hour/time – is coming – dead hear the voice of the son and live.
Father has life in himself – granted the son to also have life in himself.
Do not marvel at this [implying it was a marvelous statement indeed.] The tombs will hear this and come out. The people who receive that life are here identified as those who hear the Word and believe in the Father and the Son. They are the people who have eternal life and never will be condemned (Ro 8:1; Col 1:13).

The good to resurrection of life – Who is good? The evil to resurrection of judgment – Who is evil?
Mark 10:18 – And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.
Good – Those in Christ — Evil – Those not in Christ

Romans 10:9 – Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Good – Those who confess Jesus is Lord, those who believe God raised him from the dead.
Evil – Those who don’t confess or believe.

Romans 3:21-26 – But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— 22 the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. 26 It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
Good – Those receive Jesus by faith are made just.
Evil – Those who do not receive Jesus by faith, or try and receive Jesus by any means other than or in addition to faith.

John 6:28-29 – Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?”
29 Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”

How does God make us righteous?
Ephesians 2:1-5 – And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—

2 Corinthians 5:21 – For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

The scriptures do not contain eternal life, they bear witness about Jesus. [Bible idolatry]
Jn 5:39-40 – You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, 40 yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life.
